ลอย

v. to float, to drift.

ลอยหน้า (to move the head from side to side while talking, held as a sign of disrepect or boldness), ลอยนวล (to go scot-free, freely, unhampered), ลอยกระทง (an annual festival held in Thailand on a full-moon day in November, consisting in floating toy boats and candles in the rivers and canals).

เขาลอยเรือลงมาตามน้ำ He floated the boat downstream.

เรือลอยลงไปตามลมและคลื่น The ship drifted with wind and tide. เขาพูดขึ้นมาลอย ๆ ว่าเขาจะลาออก He said without any provocation that he would resign. เขาทำงานอย่างใจลอย He absently (absent-mindedly) went about his work. ผู้ร้ายหนีอย่างลอยนวลเข้าไปในลาว The culprits escaped scot-free into Laos.
